POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coding Supervisor is responsible for directing coding unit activities to ensure correct coding of professional radiologic services in a timely manner.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Direct monitor and train coders to ensure effective coding and procedures are in place to enable the unit to be in compliance with third party payor and governmental requirements.
2. Develop and maintain coding unit procedures, with management input. Conduct annual review of all unit procedures and revise accordingly in response to payor/government policy change and/or indicators of poor performance.
3. Identify key quality performance indicators, define parameters of success and develops action plans for indicators of poor performance. Key quality assurance / compliance indicators to be reviewed on a concurrent basis. Revise procedures in response to indicators of poor quality to ensure compliance with third party payor and governmental requirements.
4. Demonstrates understanding and implementation of key coding to customer service/publications to improve the quality of the coding product.
5. Act as the technical expert coding resources to coding staff. Maintain competency in professional coding and compliance, including CPT, ICD-9, modifier, compliance, and third party payor/governmental guidelines.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains professional coding certification visa a vie the RBMA offered exam process.
2. Maintains appropriate reference library for the unit, and coordinates dispersment of information to department staff, and follow-up of their comprehension.
3. Oversees ongoing staff training and development.
4. Special projects as assigned.

Experience required
1. Minimum 2 yrs. experience in a high volume, large Radiology medical billing office environment required.
2. Minimum 2 yrs prior supervisory experience a must.
3. CPC certification
